One night at Oregon State, Matt and I were starving after a long day of studying, so we ordered a pizza. When we tried to put the leftovers away, the box would not fit in the mini fridge. The whole company exists because we refused to accept that this was normal.
We had the short version animated because one minute tells the story better than I can here: two students, one stubborn pizza box, a 3D-printed prototype, a televised offer on Shark Tank, and more than 500,000 Pizza Packs now in kitchens nationwide.

Two guys at Oregon State with a whiteboard full of bad ideas
Before Pizza Pack, we were Tate Koenig and Matthew Poeschl, two Oregon State business students who wanted to build something—we just did not know what. We met through mutual friends during our freshman year and later took classes together because we were both majoring in entrepreneurship. I also studied international business, while Matt studied marketing.
Our whiteboard filled up with ideas: Dog Uber, Rent-A-Sock, Cat Shoes, Reverse Microwave, and Instant Water. None of them stuck. Then a pizza box would not fit in the fridge.
The problem was in our own fridge
The giant pizza box would not clear the refrigerator shelf. The pizza was still good, but our choices were to throw it away or leave it on the counter overnight. Neither made sense.
That was when the problem stopped looking like a broke-college-student inconvenience. Pizza boxes take up too much space in fridges across America. It is not a rare problem, either. USDA researchers found that 11% of the U.S. population consumed pizza on any given day during the 2017 to March 2020 study period.
The first prototype was 3D printed
Our first prototype was made with a 3D printer. It did not fold or collapse, but that was not its purpose—we built it to test and determine the correct size for Pizza Pack.
The idea to use collapsible silicone came from another project. We were producing silicone bento boxes for a school board in Nebraska, which helped us recognize that the same material and collapsible design could solve our pizza-storage problem. That project also connected us with the factory that manufactured our first Pizza Pack production run in 2022.
My two business partners and I each invested $25,000 in the company, and we entered Shark Tank without debt.
Walking into the Tank
Pizza Pack appeared on the Season 14 premiere of Shark Tank, broadcast live on ABC on September 23, 2022. I entered the Tank asking for $100,000 in exchange for 10% equity.
Kevin O’Leary, Daymond John, and Lori Greiner made investment offers, while Mark Cuban offered $1.5 million to buy the company outright. On television, I accepted Lori’s offer of $100,000 for 13% equity.
Pitching live was nerve-racking and intense, but it was worth it. However, the deal with Lori did not close. After the episode aired, Amazon was flooded with knockoffs, and it took us eight months to clean up the marketplace. By then, Lori’s team was no longer interested in moving forward. We also felt the original deal was weak and wanted to renegotiate its terms.
What happened after the episode aired
The response was immediate: we sold out and moved into pre-orders. Around 22,000 Amazon orders came in after the broadcast.
Today, Pizza Pack is sold through PizzaPack.com, Amazon, and Walmart. More than 500,000 Pizza Packs are now in kitchens across the country.
The original Pizza Pack remains one size, holding up to five slices from pizzas measuring up to 18 inches. It is available in red, black, white, blue, orange, green, pink, and yellow, with single-, two-, three-, and four-pack options. The line now also includes themed bundles, extra trays, a pizza cutter, and a Pizza Plate

What Pizza Pack actually is now
Pizza Pack is a collapsible silicone container that replaces the bulky pizza box. Featured on Shark Tank, it holds five standard slices from pizzas measuring up to 18 inches, with one slice placed on each removable tray.
Place one slice on each tray, secure the airtight lid, and collapse the container to match the amount inside. Despite some online descriptions, Pizza Pack does not create a vacuum seal.
Pizza Pack is made from BPA-free, food-grade silicone. It includes five microwave-safe divider trays, fits slices from pizzas measuring up to 18 inches, and is microwave safe, freezer safe, and dishwasher safe on the top rack. It should not be used in an oven or on a stovetop.
Customer feedback supports its core purpose. Walmart currently lists a 4.4-star rating across 200 ratings, with customers praising its space-saving design. Some note that thick or oversized slices reduce its capacity.
